Spotlight on Singapore

According to Technavio’s forecast, the data centre market in Asia-Pacific is expected to grow steadily at a CAGR of 13.88% during 2017-2021. In recent years, top cloud providers like Amazon Web Services, Microsoft and Alibaba Cloud have significantly increased their footprint in Singapore, making it the most robust and attractive destination for data centre market in Asia-Pacific.

Singapore, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Sydney are deemed the four most developed data centre markets in the Asia-Pacific region. As the demand for data storage grows, companies are looking to rent facilities instead of owning one. This trend is expected to drive the APAC revenue for shared or colocation data centres, thus overtaking the US and increasing APAC’s global share by 40% in 2020.

With similar physical and economic background as well as geographical proximity to mainland China and Southeast Asia, Hong Kong and Singapore are often referenced with each other for their competitiveness in the data centre market.
